In the second part of the programme, the orchestra will play Mendelssohn’s Symphony no. 3, also known as ‘The Scottish Symphony’ which is very familiar to music-lovers. The story goes that the sight of Mary Stuart’s mortuary, completely overgrown and covered in ivy, inspired him to write this symphony.
